Social Listening 10/13


  1. The brand I selected for this topic is Apple!
  2.  Apples value proposition is that it was the first company to make a touch screen smart phone that was convenient for its users. Its value proposition for its new product is that it is water resistant and with its updated features it allows for more ease and a better platform to compete with its competitors.
  3.  A few things that people are saying about Apple and its new product right now: First people are happy that Apple has finally created a phone with some water resistance to compete with its Samsung counterparts. Second, consumers are not so excited about the phone having no headphone jack because it takes away from the ease of using normal headphones and auxiliary ports, but since the phone comes with an adapter at first it helps with some of that issue. Lastly consumers are happy that the camera on the phone has been updated and on the larger Iphone 7 plus it has a duel lens camera. 
  4.  If I was the brand manager I would be happy with how the product was being responded too. Yes there are some things that people dislike about the new phone but with Apple you know that you have such a large following and customer base that as long as the phone has new features every year and at least tries to keep up with the technology trends that it will be successful. 

Marketing in the News

This article is about Apples new Iphone 7 and speaks heavily on how they listened to consumers issues from the previous model and how they plan on integrating those concerns into making a better model for this phone. They go on to talk about how they want to increase sales by 40% of that of the Iphone 6. Apple has really tried to listen to its consumers and prove how they can continue to show that they will innovate to keep up with the trends. They plan to market on all of the normal platforms including Television, social media as well as what they always do with new products by making the phone the headliner on there website.

The marketing challenge for this product is just trying to continue to reach more customers, as apple already is the mainstay product for smartphones, up there with Samsung, it is always hard to reach more customers when you are that big because everyone already has the product and knows what it is. Which is a good thing because there will always be a younger generation that are buying phones and so the Iphone is always going to be in the conversation.

What I learned from this article is that Apple tends to listen to their customers more than I thought. Also that even when you are such a big company that you always have room to grow and areas to improve on to reach more customers. I also saw that Apple is still using print ads to reach a market of consumers who still get their information from newspapers.

Topic 1
I was prompted to take this course because marketing is something I want to get into as a career and this class is the foundation of my courses to take ahead and I am really excited to see what this course has to offer!

I am a general ed major but once I transfer to OSU I will pursue a marketing major.

I am most interested in the behind the scenes part of marketing as well as the actual process of it all, I know how much it plays a role in business nowadays as there are plenty of ways to market in this day and age so it excites me being able to see how far it has come and where it can go.

Outside of college I am very interested in the music industry and that is where I want to pursue a marketing career, I currently do marketing for a small company that puts on smaller music events as well as promoting larger events. 

Topic 2
The article that I read was about content marketing and how you can basically learn from your competitions mistakes and strong areas. It goes on to talk about how you can really go and look at what works with your competition. It speaks mainly towards the online area of marketing and how you can really get the numbers through doing small amounts of research and using things that can track and monitor things your competition is doing as well. It speaks on how you can use this research to attract the customers from your competition using there own strengths. 

The main point that applies to marketing in this case is just how content marketing can be used to small business's advantage. Because so many small businesses can fail due to little mistakes including marketing so if you can take advantage of using what your competition does correctly then you are able to go about your marketing process in the most efficient way possible. 

I learned from this article that you can really gain a lot from even your strongest competitor, I feel like a lot of businesses are so focused on doing everything different to set them apart from others that they are close-minded to using what works best to further themselves and allow their business to grow as fast as it can while making minimal mistakes.
